The World Test Championship (WTC) standings have become even more exciting with Bangladesh’s historic series victory over Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s recent win against England at The Oval. These results have intensified the competition for the top two spots in the WTC final at Lord’s next year.
India, having secured a second-place finish with a points percentage (PCT) of 58.80 in the 2021-23 cycle, is currently at the top with a PCT of 68.52. With 12 Test series remaining among nine teams, no team has secured its spot in the final yet. Here’s a breakdown of the qualification scenarios for each team:
WTC Points Table

Note: In the WTC 2023-2025, teams receive 12 points for a win, 4 for a draw, and 6 for a tie. The points percentage system (PCT) is used to determine standings. PCT = (Points won by a team / Points contested) * 100.
India
- Remaining fixtures: 2 vs BAN (Home), 3 vs NZ (Home), 5 vs AUS (Away)
- India leads the table with a 68.52 PCT and has ten matches remaining. They could finish with a maximum PCT of 85.08. Winning all matches will solidify their place, but a 5-5 result would require other results to go their way.
Australia
- Remaining fixtures: 5 vs IND (H), 2 vs SL (A)
- Defending champions Australia are currently second with a 62.5 PCT. They need at least four wins from their remaining seven games to maintain their position. Winning all matches would take them to 76.31 PCT.

New Zealand
- Remaining fixtures: 2 vs SL (A), 3 vs IND (A), 3 vs ENG (H)
- With a current PCT of 50.0, New Zealand must win six of their eight remaining games to stay in contention. Their record in India and Sri Lanka poses a challenge.
Bangladesh
- Remaining fixtures: 2 vs IND (A), 2 vs WI (A), 2 vs SA (H)
- Bangladesh has a PCT of 45.83. Winning all six remaining matches could take them to 72.91 PCT. Four wins and two draws will also keep them in the race.
Sri Lanka
- Remaining fixtures: 2 vs NZ (H), 2 vs SA (A), 2 vs AUS (H)
- Despite a current PCT of 42.86, Sri Lanka’s win at The Oval has revived their chances. Winning all six remaining matches could see them reach 69.23 PCT.
South Africa
- Remaining fixtures: 2 vs SL (H), 2 vs PAK (H), 2 vs BAN (A)
- South Africa, with a 38.89 PCT, needs to win all six remaining games to reach 69.44 PCT, almost guaranteeing a final spot.
England
- Remaining fixtures: 3 vs PAK (A), 3 vs NZ (A)
- With a 42.19 PCT, England needs to win all six remaining games to have a chance. They would need other results to align perfectly to stay in the race.
Pakistan
- Remaining fixtures: 3 vs ENG (H), 2 vs SA (A), 2 vs WI (H)
- Pakistan’s PCT of 19.05 leaves them with slim chances. Winning all seven remaining matches could bring them up to 59.52 PCT, but they need many favorable results.
West Indies
- Remaining fixtures: 2 vs BAN (H), 2 vs PAK (A)
- With only one win and a PCT of 18.52, West Indies are out of the WTC final race. Even winning all remaining matches won’t be enough for qualification.
Note: Calculations assume no points are lost for slow over-rates, which could affect standings. Teams like New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, and Sri Lanka have not been penalized for slow over-rates in the current cycle.
